Originally from Europe. It belongs to the genus Brassica and to the cruciferous family.

Annual or biennial herbaceous plant, cylindrical and thickened root, erect and branched stem, lobed and contracted basal leaves, oblong-lanceolate or embossing leaves, yellow floral clusters and corimbiform and the fruit is a silica.

A crop of great importance for containing antioxidant compounds that help prevent diseases and the main producing countries are Germany, the southern US and southern Europe.
