Native plant of Mexico and the West of the United States.

The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) belongs to the family Asteraceae and is an annual plant, with pivotal root, semi-illegible stem with a rough and hairy surface.

It has alternate leaves, long petiolate and rough hairiness, a floral receptacle or solitary, rotating and surrounded by bracts involucrales and the fruit is an achene.

It is one of the herbaceous oil extraction plants most cultivated in the world and important as a forage plant.

Europe is the most producing country.
