Native to South Asia. It belongs to the genus Cucurbita and to the family Cucurbitaceae.
Annual plant, of indeterminate growth and creeping load, main root axonomorfa, cylindrical stem, coarse, with superficial surface, rough and with tendrils, webbed leaf, large limb with glabrous bundle and rough underside, monoecious, solitary, axillary, large flower flared and the fruit is fleshy, unilocular pepónide with white-yellow seeds.
The main producing countries are India, China and Ukraine.
