Originally from Asia. It belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae and to the genus Cucumis.
Annual herbaceous plant with powerful root system, thorny stem with tendrils, creeping and climbing, leaves long petiole, large and hearty, with three green lobes and covered with fine hair, yellow flower and the fruit is a pepónide of color variable with aqueous pulp and with seeds inside.
It serves both fresh and industrialized food and the main producing countries are China, Turkey and Iran.
