Natural of Europe and Asia. It belongs to the family Rosaceae and to the genus Prunus.
Deciduous tree with reddish brown bark, ovate-oblong leaves with sawed margin, petiole with reddish glands, white flowers grouped in umbels and the fruit is a red-blackish, globose or cherry-like drupe.
It has excellent commercialization for being the first fruit of bone that enters the market, its wood is very esteemed in turnery and cabinetmaking and the most producing countries are Russia, United States and Germany.
