Alfalfa

It comes from Asia Minor and the South Caucasus. It belongs to the family of legumes and to the genus Medicago.

It is a perennial plant, lively and erect with a developed pivotal root, thin and erect stem, trifoliate leaves, blue flower with inflorescences in clusters and the fruit is an indehiscent legume with 2-6 seeds.

It is of interest as a natural source of fiber, proteins, vitamins and minerals and as a reduction of erosion and some pests and phytopathies.

The most producing countries are the United States and Argentina.
